A 3D visualization of famous galaxy group Stephan’s Quintet makes the spatial relationship between the galaxies more clear. One spiral galaxy, NGC 7320, is actually in the foreground. The next two spirals are close together, warping each other’s shape with their gravity. Behind them is another galaxy, undistorted, that appears to overlap in a 2D image.
