Over the weekend, we posted this video on Instagram of Judy enjoying a routine cleaning. People often ask if sea turtles can feel through their carapace (shell) -- and the answer is yes! Several of our sea turtle patients seem to enjoy having their shell scratched/rubbed during their cleanings. In fact, our sea turtle patients often rub their carapace against their tanks' enrichment devices. In the wild, sea turtles can be spotted rubbing their carapaces against reefs or other objects. The Turtle Hospital is proud to announce the release of “Molly,” a resilient loggerhead sea turtle who captured hearts worldwide during her extraordinary rehabilitation journey. Molly, the first loggerhead of her size to survive the removal of such a large tumor, will return to her ocean home on Tuesday, November 25th, at Higgs Beach in Key West. Molly was rescued in early August off Key West by local charter boat captain, who discovered her weak, anemic, and entangled in a stone crab trap line.
