John Milton’s Paradise Lost is one of the greatest achievements in English literature, an epic of rebellion, temptation, and the fall of man. By 1652 Milton was completely blind. He carried the entire poem in his head, dictating it line by line to aides and his daughters. In 1667 he sold the rights for just £5, a fraction of what the work would mean to the world. More than 10,000 lines of blank verse reshaped English poetry and gave Satan one of his most magnetic portrayals in literature. We are
