It rewrote the structure of the plate beneath it. A deep mantle plume blasted upward with enough force to fill the lithosphere with towering magma fractures, cut through older layers, and create a hybrid plate unlike anything else in the Pacific. The mantle below it was chemically altered, leaving permanent scars still detectable today.
