Here in Palm Beach County, we are approaching the start of sea turtle nesting, which runs March 1 through Oct. 31, and we couldn’t be more excited for the 2018 season! You might be wondering how you can help keep the beach safe for nesting sea turtles and hatchlings like these two. A couple easy do's and don'ts for nesting season are to keep your distance, let hatchlings emerge, turn off lights at night on the beach, don't leave any obstacles on the beach and fill in your holes. We have officially broken our all-time sea turtle nest count, with 19,580 nests!! Our last record breaking nesting season was recorded in 2017 with a total of 19,085 nests. The 9.5 mile stretch of beach that LMC's research team monitors is one of the most densley nested sea turtle beaches in the world! This loggerhead sea turtle hatchling was discovered during a nest excavation at Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park in North Naples, Florida. Unfortunately, this sweet little baby was having a very difficult time crawling to the water. It looked like something was wrong with its front right flipper. So tiny and so innocent.
