They told you to swaddle to calm their arms from flying up aka the startle reflex. But what if I told you… that reflex is there for a reason? As a pediatric therapist (and a mom), I’ve seen how newborns actually use that reflex to build strength, movement, and brain connections in their earliest days. That’s why in my home, I skipped swaddles, pacifiers, and even a crib—for the first few months. Not because I wanted to be different. But because I finally understood what my baby really needed. Ha
